Koch Skanska was part of the tri-venture with Tidewater Skanska and Tutor-Saliba that completed this $484 million dollar contract to renovate and seismically retrofit the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in California. The bridge requird over 15,000 tons of steel to retrofit the structure. A 900 metric ton crane barge was used to erect new 100 ton columns that were also put in place. Replacement of 122 truss shoe pins and 6,000 feet of concrete viaduct was also part of the contract. There is a large amount of wildlife that inhabits the area which requires special planning and care to not disturb their ecosystem. Another factor of concern was the 60,000 vehicles that travel the 4.5 mile long bridge on a daily basis making maintenance of traffic vital. |
